An A-Z of musical acts chosen by the Spotify algorithm.
It is over 55 years since Led Zeppelin released their first album and burst onto the musical scene.
Their classic track is 'Stairway to Heaven' of course, although it is not their best song.
I have several friends who saw Led Zeppelin play at Knebworth - we will hear the story of that later in the blog as well.
I've already shared a connection with the band's album cover designs.
Last year, I went to see a film about the band's early days: 'Becoming Led Zeppelin'.
Here's the trailer - it is worth catching the whole film, which takes them through the early part of their career and has some excellent archive performances.
Other tracks of note include Kashmir. This Financial Times piece talks about the inspiration for the song.
Just as Toto wrote “Africa” without having visited that continent, Led Zeppelin wrote a song called “Kashmir” without actually going there. Here is the track from their 'Celebration Day' performance, when they reformed for a special concert, with Jason Bonham standing in for his dad on drums.
It involves the double-neck guitars which came out a lot in the 1980s...
One particular album cover is Physical Graffiti. This features Kashmir and was recorded 1973-4.
I had this album on LP - one of many that I no longer have sadly. The inner sleeves had letters which lined up with the windows of the building.
Many Led Zeppelin fans make their way to the location of the actual building in New York.
The band's legacy is a strong one. Robert Plant is still very active, producing music with a blues tinge.
I saw Robert Plant playing live in 1988 at Sheffield City Hall on the 'Manic Nirvana' tour. He was supported by It Bites - who I preferred, as they were one of my favourite ever live acts. Jimmy Page came on as a surprise when he played Hammersmith Odeon.
Francis Dunnery was the connection here. He played with Robert Plant's band for some time.
