Twenty years ago, 2006 saw the release of my favourite album from 'The Decemberists'. I heard one of their songs in early 2000s and have followed them ever since.
'The Crane Wife' was an album that instantly grabbed my attention when I first heard it. Here's parts 1-3 at the 20th anniversary concert in 2021
I saw the tour in support of the album at the Cambridge Junction - a good small venue, which had some classic tracks and renditions of all three parts of 'The Crane Wife'. The musicianship was excellent, although some people in the audience were dicks.
Speaking of the Decemberists, it's perhaps a good place here to add a song with lots of rude words in it.
The lyrics of this song are by Lin Manuel Miranda.
This was originally written for inclusion into everyone's favourite misical 'Hamilton'. It's about Benjamin Franklin. The Decemberists were asked to provide the music for it, but it ended up not being used in the final musical.
Frost* released Milliontown.
This has a striking cover and some awesome arrangements and musicianship.
